Beyond a cup of Tea - Amazing uses of Tea bags

Yes - Don’t throw the tea bags after brewing your tea, they have some amazing uses.

Reduce dark circles and puffiness

Green tea and Black tea are packed with antioxidants such as polyphenols. The flavonoids and tannins in the tea have potent anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory effects. After brewing your tea, place warm tea bags on each eye for a few minutes. This helps reduce puffiness and dark circles. The tannins help tighten the skin, alleviate any puffiness around the eyes, and help reduce crowfeet.  Caffeine also aids in reducing puffiness and shrinking blood cells around the eyes. You can also refrigerate the tea bags and use them as a cold compress to treat under-eye puffiness.

As a Refreshing Toner

After brewing your tea, the tea bags or loose tea leaves can be used to do the job of an amazing toner. Wipe a tea bag over your face leave it for a minute or two and then wipe it off with a clean towel. Tea is found to improve skin health owing to its high tannin and flavonoid content.

Soothes Acne, Sunburn, and Bug bites

If you have a pimple, bug bite, blisters rashes, cold sores, or razor burn, gently dab on a brewed tea bag on the site and leave it on for a while.  The tea bags provide soothing relief by reducing inflammation and itching and also help to heal faster.

If you accidentally spend too much time under the sun, you can soothe sunburns with tea. Dip a soft towel into the tea and dab the tea on the area of sunburn.  The tannins and catechins soothe, reduce redness, help to repair sun damage, and prevent skin peeling.

Tea leaves as a Face Mask

The leaves after brewing could be used as a great scrub/ mask. The anti-aging and anti-inflammatory benefits of tea help cure acne, reverse damage from the sun, and lower the risk of skin cancer. You can either dry the leaves inside the bags and add on to the face scrub or use them as a face scrub itself. The anti-oxidant properties can bring back the skin glow. The polyphenols in the tea help fade the scars caused by acne.

Wonderful Fix for Your Chapped Lips

Green tea is said to alleviate the dry and chapped lips. All you need to do is dab a tea bag (post brewing) on the lips, leave it on till it dries, and wash it off. This will help relieve the burning sensation due to dry lips and further hydrate the lips like never before.

Amazing Hair Rinse

Tea can help hair look shiny and smooth. Green tea extracts have been found to even prevent hair loss and dandruff. To use green tea as a rinse, make a strong tea brew and allow it to cool. Before showering, pour the tea into your hair. Leave on the tea for 10 minutes and then rinse it off and follow with shampooing.  The powerful polyphenols help improve circulation and scalp health.

Facial Steaming with Tea

The tea bags could be used for facial steaming. The antioxidants in the tea help tone and hydrate your skin.

Neutralize Odors

After brewing tea, cut open the tea bag and let the tea leaves dry out.  The dried leaves could be placed in a stinky place, like the garbage can or fridge. The leaves not only serve as odour neutralizers but also make the area smell great especially when teas such as peppermint or cinnamon tea are used.

Clean Glass Surfaces

Tea could be used to clean mirrors, windows, or other glass surfaces. The tea leaves or the tea bag could be used to remove, dust, dirt, and other grime from the glass.

Garden Helper

The tea leaves or compostable tea bags could be buried under the soil as a good source of nourishment for the plants.
